Beyond The Dunes
Just for you, Todd C, i backpacked up the miserable Music Pass Road in 90 deg heat just so i could add some Music Pass and Sand Lake shots to my collection. The mosquitoes sucked too, but the sunset, Milky Way, and sunrise totally made up for the pain.
Here's easily my best shot, (take note, Jack B)but I need help weeding through the others

OH YEAH, BABY! Wow, that Tijeras/LSCL shot is AWESOME!!! The Music Pass stuff pales by comparison, except for #6, with Crestone Needle making a guest appearance. The wildflower shot (#5) is fantastic, too. Excellent stuff, Stan.

Oh, man does that B&W steal the show! All are your usual excellent work, but that one is classic art!

Yeah, the Tijeras shot is great. You said Milky Way was great. Any photos? Thanks for posting.

all are great. Love the B&W!

Nice series Stan. The first is my favorite. The color on that peak and the clouds are great in that shot!

A great series. I think the B+W is my favorite, but the first shot is certainly a beaut. I am guessing this is an HDR image? Very nice.

I agree with you Stan that the first is the top of this class, and believe it or not you posted them in the order of my preference. Very nice set!

#2 is my favorite. Lots going on there. Very intersting. #1 looks a tad overexposed to me.

Another vote for the B&W! Nice series overall.

Nice series and sounds like a good trip. Still I expected you to sneak in a sand dunes image just to see if anyone was paying attention.

#7 is my Absolute Favorite of all as I have been drawn a lot towards Black & White compositions #'s 6 and 8 are divine too! :wavey:

Nice series. Really like the Vertical comp on #2.

Thanks!
Momo--no, really wish i had but at the time i wasnt interested in crawling out of my tent
Roger-its a 2 exposure manual blend.

The first one and the b&w are my favorites.
As for the choice between the two compositions, I prefer the vertical primarily because the light is better. The peaks are nicely lit, the clouds are better, the foreground is 'warmer' and has been reduced to highlight the flowers more.

They're all pretty damn nice, Stan!

Incredible shots, Stan.

I luv #6.

I hope to get there some day...a long way from Florida.

You rocked it bro!! Excellent collection-

Thanks, folks! Thanks to Kane, i totally reworked the first shot--it was definitely overexposed as he pointed out. In the rework, i useed one exposure rather than two--which also eliminated the slight sky/reflection discrepancy. Much more natural result, IMO. Will probably repost in ESS tommorrow (sorry, Jack)

Oh I see how it works now... you post here, get feedback, and then post the improved version over on ESS to impress everyone over there.

Actually I'm having a hard time seeing much difference between the two... I think I like the alpenglow on the one here a bit better, it's a little bit darker and oranger.

Anyhow, the first shot is definitely the ONE from this trip! My only critique, which is purely personal preference, is that the sky seems overly cyan. But anyways, what an epic shot!!!

Great series, it looks like it was worth the hike.
