Merlin or Peregrine Falcon?
I caught a couple of shots of the falcon near the shore/marsh area in Connecticut. Thought it was a Peregrine Falcon, but according to The Birds of North America, it should not be in New England.

Would appreciate an ID. Thanks in advance.

Here is another view which had harsh backlighting so had to use shadows/highlights to bring out detail. The grey coloring is more accurate.

Peregrine Falcon definetly, I think they get up that direction occasionally.

Def. Peregrine and it certainly occurs in that area because I see plenty across the sound in Long Island

It's definitely a Peregrine Falcon. Looks like a juvenile to me.

I agree that it looks like a juvenile - they seem to have those darker bellies and adults have yellow around their eyes and on their beaks and legs. I don't know if there's any eastern equivalent but in the midwest you can look up those numbers on it's band and find out it's history, gender, name, etc. http://www.midwestperegrine.org/

I can't see the band numbers clearly, but maybe you can on the original.
