I found this dragonfly while carrying out a reptile survey on a Dorset heath. It was very confiding, probably because it was busy eating lunch (a bee as far as I could tell). I have used a wide aperture as I wanted to throw the background as far out of focus as I could. I have, however, opted to leave the clump of heather in as it offers an explanation for the pink blobs in the background. Does anyone think it would look better without the flowers?

The flowers give balance to the image, I feel. Others may think differently An impressive insect even though it eats bees.
The first one for me as well David. Shame the light was so harsh for you but you have handled it very well. A touch more DOF may have brought the tip pf the abdomen into focus but in these weather conditions you can't expect everything.. Did you manage to get some close-ups of it 'chowing-down' on that Bee..?
Think I may be the odd one out David I prefer it without the flower,I just think it looks cleaner without it and the oof bits of it keep catching my eye, so I think the second one is lovely and pretty colour
Sorry David to be a ditherer but I can't make up my mind which I prefer. Keep going from one ot the other. Anyway nice to get a shot of one of these. I am hoping to get some soon (if only the wind would die down).

The image carries more impact with the flowers IMHO.
