A good educational lesson for any photographer... Last time I was in Downtown Denver I got yelled at by the guy I was shooting with because I was taking pictures of the Fed Building. Apparently he was threatened by an officer last time he had done it. A little knowledge like this goes a long ways.

Great info and it's said that this is the direction we are going now. Seems like they are passing new laws everyday today that makes it illegal to take a picture of something. I travel all over the US and spend a lot of time in DC and NY, two of the biggest places this stuff occurs. 9 times out of 10 the person is just doing his/her job or what he is told to do. Be polite and most of the time they are too and once they get a fill for you they move on their way. Lots of times I'll actually walk up to the Secret Service (in DC) and ask them if it is ok to take a picture of something. Most of the time they say sure go ahead. Then you have the 1 out of 10 that is just on a power trip of which those are the guys I like to mess with.

Thanks for sharing that Todd.

For those that are interested in these issues, I follow this blog which has turned into a clearinghouse for issues and incidents regarding photographer's rights:

Thanks for posting this Todd! I wish I would have read this before I was approached out at Pawnee Buttes a few weeks ago. Really appreciate the knowledge!
