Heron
Another cropping dilemma. One of my favourite subjects in a typical setting. Cropping? Ideally I should have shot this with the bird more to the left of the image but obviously didn't. I like the reeds and feel they are a major part of the image and in particular I like the way the wind bent reed tips all face the opposite way to the heron. As a result I felt that leaving it full frame with the bird central was my only option, as cropping the LHS would leave me too square which would mean I'd have to take some off the top to bring it back to a landscape. Doing that would spoil the reeds (and essentially the herons environment) as mentioned above.
What would you do?

Lovely habitat shot. I would definitely take out most of the reeds on the left (which don't add to the picture), still leaving a pleasing format. Looks great!

Agree with Ian, a small crop to the left, very pleasing shot! :toast:

I agree with Ian and Scott. I would also like to see the heron higher in the frame. Did you take any shots in vertical format?

I think this is lovely really gives off the feeling of exactly what they do creep amongst the reeds looking for their next meal
