Red Grouse
Sorry have not posted much lately, have been trying to capture this sort of photo all winter. Easy to get them flying away from you, but more difficult to get them coming at you (without the help of men with flags). After finding some grouse and sort of working out their habits, I have spent many happy an hour waiting for a close fly-by that I was quick enough to capture!
Cropped on all sides to about 70% of orignal, D2x, 500mm @ 1/1250 sec, f6.3 ISO 400, bag hide.
Cheers Simon

Hi Simon
nice action shot of the Red Grouse. Your perseverance has paid off. I have tried but without success up till now.

Hats off to you Simon. A very difficult shot to achieve. Love that underwing patterning.

What a great capture.
Love the way the bird appears to be looking towards your direction.Nicely positioned within the frame also.
A fine image to have in your collection. :toast:

It is well caught, but I'd like to see some moor, as they do skim over the heather. Still great stuff.

Thanks for the comments. Attached is a recrop including moorland but it maybe too distant.
In order to have greater sucess with the autofocus I had positioned myself so any birds would be against sky rather than heather.
Cheers Simon

Hi Simon

Really great image fromn a v. difficult shot - an aspect normally only viewed from behind a shotgun. The underwings are beautiful and seldom seen in photos.

Hi Simon

Much prefer the second image.

Nice one :toast:

Great, I too prefer the second, as the bird seems better placed in the frame to me, it has some room at the bottom to fly into...
