Legging it!

Eurasian Badger (Meles meles) – Essex.

Nikon D3, 200-400/f4 + 1.4x, Gitzo .
Manual exposure mode f6.3 ;1/250, iso 3200.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS5; noise reduction using Noiseware Professional Imagenomic; full frame.

I shot this image at a shutter way below that at which I would be relatively confident of getting something sharp, so I guess I’m lucky that my panning speed just about matched the motion of the cub. No flash used.

Excellent panning technique, resulting in a fine image. Reminds me of the Eadweard J. Muybridge galloping horse sequence, maybe you should try it with badgers.

I'm very surprised to see only 11 comments on this given how difficult this would be to achieve, so here is number 12.
An excellent shot, rarely seen and captured with no little degree of skill. It's full frame so no comments from me about extra space as I'm assuming it was shot at the short end of your zoom  Great as it is but I would be tempted to maybe just warm it up a touch. I would be absolutely delighted to have taken this. Nice one.

Your panning technique is excellent. The extra space on the left would be great, but I would be proud to have taken this exactly as it is.

Hi Phil

I agree with David, if this is a crop then the composition would be enhanced by allowing space for the badger to run into. Other than that, this is a fresh looking badger image excellently executed. Very nice.

Cheers,
Chris
