I just got back from a week's trip to Colorado chasing wildflowers. I camped last Wednesday night in American Basin near Silverton, Colorado and woke up to a steady rain. Here is a moody shot from early Thursday morning.
The wildflowers were really nice this year, especially the Columbines. I will post a few more when I get time to process the files!
I like the way the creek leads into the photo, and the cloud cover really make the colors pop. I could tell a couple of weeks ago that the flowers were going to be good this year but I was too early. On the other hand, it looks like the monsoon season has set in whichh I managed to avoid. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely image of a beautiful valley. The rain and overcast make the bright flowers seem even more so by contrast.
Did you use a bubble level on the shot? With so much curved landscape it is hard to tell if things are level or not. Then again, with no level horizon it probably doesn't matter all that much.

Great ambiance in this well composed photo.
And, camping out really adds to the memory.

Hey Tom, this looks familiar... That light rain really enhances the color, and those clouds over the moutain peaks really added a nice mood to the scene. Beautiful work.
Glad to know you made it back home safely.

Looks cool (in the temperature sense) and leaves me longing for a cool and drizzly fall morning in the woods. Beautiful work, Tom.

A beautiful shot Tom. The conditions there look wonderful and you nailed this comp. The flowers, stream and hillsides are really nice. I even like the brighter area of the gray sky in the distance. I'm looking forward to seeing more from your trip.
I was at this exact spot a few years ago and loved it. Your mage is beautiful, the colors are great which lend nicely to the mood. I'm heading to CO next week, too late for flowers but there is always something to shoot in SW Colorado.
Daniel, I did use a bubble level, but even then I was second guessing myself on several shots in this area. Larry, this was one the most beautiful areas for camping that I have seen in Colorado. In fact, as I was bundled up in my down sleeping bag listening to the remastered Beatles albums on my Iphone with noise canceling headphones, I decided it can't get much better than this! It was almost as good as seeing Paul McCartney live, well, maybe not that good!
I would sure like to see this spot with some great morning light, but it was not be had on this trip.
The posting size limits are not helping this image much, it looks much better in full resolution. Thanks for all the nice comments.
