San Juans Magic
Last week was quite possibly the best I've ever had for photographing some incredible Colorado landscapes. It took five days to find this place, and had it to myself for a day and a half.

As shown in Tom's recent post, most of the week was cloudy and rainy, which made for some great saturated color. I kept hoping I'd get a nice sunrise though, with some backlighting to give a nice glow to the scene. It finally happened Saturday morning.

Here are a few other favorites from the trip...

Hey Bill,

These are all wonderful but one is just awesome! Was it a two shot blend for sky & foreground?

I like the other three too with #2 & #4 standing out as unusual landscape perspectives. Great eye to see the potential of the smaller scene within a scene. Great work. Glad to see your trip west turned out to be productive.

Nice series and agree that #1 is a real winner!

Beautiful shots all, but that first one takes your breath away.

Thanks, guys. I can count on one hand the number of times I've witnessed such a beautiful moment in time...almost brought me to tears.

Wayne, this was actually a three shot blend in Photomatix exposure fusion. I think the sky was actually more colorful than what is shown here, but I guess this the best I can do for now.

Unfortunately, it was necessary to save the image at a quality setting of 4 to get it under the file size requirements, so there was quite a bit of shadow detail lost in this version.

You had to wait to the last minute but you found you flowers in the FG of a lake and sunrise to top it off. Great composition, Bill. You patience has paid off once more in a fantastic set of images. Can't wait to see more.

All I can say is......I'm speechless and jealous, and anything else that anybody said. Very NICE Mr. Dark.

Well, what can be said except these are exceptional, especially the last post. I also like the lines on #4. Great eye, great technique and a good photographer from which to learn.
THANKS!!

Beautiful work, Bill. 1 and 4 are my favorites, though #5 hangs in there. #1 just pops, and is beautiful. I like the lines in #4, and #5 seems peaceful.

#1 is just stunning with those backlit wildflowers. The very last one is beautiful as well.

Looks like you guys had a great trip Bill. The first one is the one most definately. Bueautiful foreground and sky with the nice sun rays. Gotta love those mountains!!

I'm trying to think of something that hasn't been said already, and all I can think of is "wow!" It looks like you had some moments that almost made you feel like you were in a dream.
