Or "Always be prepared", or specifically, "always start with an empty flash card and have a spare (also empty)in your pocket". In this case, a second Yellow Warbler was with the one I posted yesterday on the critique gallery. I noticed it moving around the back of the tree and sending water from the rather heavy dew flying as I thought it was foraging. Finally I got a screened look at it and realized it was bathing in the dew on the leaves. Just as it moved to my side of the tree I got the dreaded CF Card Full message. The spare, of course was readily accessible-in the pack at my feet. By the time I retrieved it, the bird had moved on leaving me with nothing but a tale of woe.
Anyhow,it did leave me with a couple of images of a very wet bird.
Bummer!
I've learned to change CF cards at about 20 shots left. However, it seems birds are watching us, and cruise by just when we have the camera NOT ready.
With my 16 GB card plus the SD card in the D300s, I have more than 1000 shots available, so rarely get down to that 20 left, unless I'm out shooting continually all day.
