Kudos to Scott for bringing the Paint Mines to my attention (and to those before him)! I woke up needing an adventure today and this totally fit the bill for a photographer frustrated by the brown barren space between Autumn and Spring. I shot most of these with my manual settings, concentrating mostly on shutter speed over aperature (mostly 1/4000, sometimes 1/2000 - super bright day out there). Camera is a Nikon Coolpix 5400. The macros were done on the macro preset since the camera does it better than I do. It's also the first time I shot using TIFF instead of JPG. Definitely a surefire way to eat up a memory card in a hurry... hopefully the print quality will make up for the lack of freedom to point and shoot at anything and everything without having to make difficult choices about what to keep and what to pass on.
I don't expect much super brilliant technical criticism on these, since you guys often might as well be speaking Martian with the tech when I think a photo looks just fantastic (though I do pay attention and try to learn from it), but I hope you enjoy the composition. I just try to make it pretty.

Hey Rebecca,
I think your shots are great! Good exposure and composition. I am heading out to SE Utah tomorrow for 5 days...hoping to get some keepers!
Thanks! The faves I keep coming back to are the one I posted (I'm a sucker for macro and a spot of red) and the first two on page one, especially the second. It's always interesting to me what different people gravitate toward.
I always put up a photo essay of my latest adventure. Not everything makes it into the catalog, but it keeps things updated even when the inventory is remaining rather static. An incentive for folks to come back and check the page from time to time. I can pretend that's how it works, eh?
Cool stuff Rebecca! A wonderful collection of images. What a wild place, hard to believe it's so close to home. I agree with Darren, the last one on page one is my favorite!
