Hwy 50/550 FYI - UPDATED!!!

Heads-up X 3:
Chipseal project over Monarch Pass next Monday through Wednesday. Expect delays.

Ongoing road work on 550 heading from Silverton south. Slooooow going in long lines of RV traffic.

HEAVY law enforcement activity in and around Gunnison. There's a biker gathering in town, but I saw many, many people pulled over by CSP today AND Wednesday from east of town all the way west towards Curicanti. Be careful out there!

Thanks for the heads up! I was going to head to Clear Lake again tomorrow, but think I'll go via Ridgway/Ouray now. Got a wildflower update for that area?

Better yet, I think I'll go via Ophir Pass.

I didn't go to any of the "hotspots," and so I don't have much info on flowers, except that there were stunning bunches of columbine and red paintbrush and other assorted species covering the hillsides just over the west side of Ophir Pass. Not much in the way of grand landscape photo ops, but lots of flower portrait potential. That route would be good, although I'm guessing they suspend work on weekends at the Silverton mess.

Last Sunday they were shut down, but I wasn't sure about Saturdays.

Just heard from George Hager. He was up on Ophir in the pouring rain and said they closed the pass due to a rockslide on the west side. So much for that option. Not sure when it'll reopen.
