On late Saturday we paid a visit to Richmond Park to see if we could seek out some stag beetles. We didn't find any of those, but we did see a few stags of the mammalian kind. Here's one red deer who was curious enough to wander up to us a little before scampering away.
This was taken near the Spankers Wood area of Richmond Park. The golden colour is not of the sunset, but of the sunlight on the dry grass behind, with the sun setting behind me.
As for post-processing, the deer was in shade, so I've brought him out a little more, and the bright yellow sunlit grass was almost as bright and as saturated as it is here.
Nikon D700 + 200-400 f/4 at 400mm, 1/125th f/4.0 and ISO 500
The deer itself looks good and it looks as though you've done a fine job of bringing out the detail.
Only thing that spoils it for me is the yellow band in the background, unfortunately it's very over-exposed and the colour looks a little unnatural.
Never an easy task though of balancing extremes of brightness within a scene.

Justin, now I've posted it, I see what you mean. Here's a repost, but I think I'm really stretching the dynamic range now.

Nice composition David but I have to agree that the golden band is just too strong a feature.

I love the golden sunset but the darker band at the top of the image helps to emphasise it too much, at the expense of the excllent deer, IMO. Perhaps, also, it might work as a wider pano so there is less emphasis on the unavoidable sunset and more on the overall scene.

I agree that the deer is great but the image is unfortunately spoilt by the golden band through it.
The re-post looks better but the gold band just kills it for me i'm afraid.

great looking shot shame about the yellow band
