Have been to many places in the state chasing fall color but don't seem to see much posted about the Lake City area. Excellent part of the state but wondering if anyone has any experience with fall color over that way. Starting to do a little planning. Thanks.

Patrick, there's a lot of fall color down there. My experience has been that it changes noticeably earlier than other San Juan spots, and even most Colorado spots for that matter. My birthday is on 9/13, and I've been down that way on a few occasions on that date. I've been surprised that the drive from Lake City to Creede has been at peak at that time. I've also been down there later, when the rest of the San Juans are a technicolor dream, and found the forests around there bare. In the mountains directly around Lake City (Engineer /Cinnamon Pass roads) are a little more normal on timing. But as you head from LC to Creede is where you'll see a difference.

(why say in 20 words what you can say in 200? )

Thanks Todd. Glad to hear there's good color there, just wish it were a little closer to the San Juan color timing. But, maybe two trips as I'd like to see fall in that area. Been a long time since I've been over Slumgullien Pass.
