Mating Emeralds

well, they're about to mate. The male is holding onto the female prior to forming a mating 'wheel'. I couldn't get them both to be parallel to the lens so had to stack 2 images to get the female's abdomen in focus. I tried various apertures but liked the effect of the reeds in the background at f10.

Canon 7D with Sigma 150mm lens, 2 images at f10, ISO 400, tripod etc.

All C+C welcomed.

Hi Matt,

I like the oof background very much it makes a fine backdrop. :toast:

I understand about the 2 images but i'm not a macro expert.
The image is very appealing but does not look quite sharp enough on my monitor. Perhaps another round of selective sharpening using the high pass filter and selecting "overlay" as the blending mode would help.

thanks Shaun, you might be right. I'm always reluctant to over-sharpen and probably tend to undersharpen sometimes. The high res version is pin sharp so it's just the low res that might need a bit more.

I agree with Shaun that it does appear to be ever so slightly soft, but still an excellent colourfully understaded image.

You did very well stacking images with that number of wings to deal with.. Great use of the technique for DOF..
