Just looking through some Avocet shots from last year whilst waiting for some sunshine!

D70 Sigma 50-500 at 500mm, f7.1, 1/1000, DigitalISO 400.

Hi Clive
This has the makings of a great shot,Great reflection and good light but not sure about the pose of the bird, would prefer it if bird had turned around abit more

Hi Clive

I quite like the pose and the bird is beautifully captured. Don't like the square format, however - the empty space on the rhs detracts a bit. Could maybe try cropping into portrait format and making the most of the top/bottom symmetry.

Hi Clive

Not normally a lover of mirror images but this one works quite well!

I'm not keen on the pose but the mirror image is fabulous, I'd agree with Malcolm with respect to the space on the rhs.

Thanks for the crop ideas - will have try a few out.

I liked the circular ripples and tried to keep them all!

I like the calmness of the water, with that clear reflection and ripple really adding to the images appeal.
Wasn't overly keen on the square format at first, but having looked again,it's now growing on me.
Would agree that a portrait format composition would work very well also.

Hi Clive

Doesn’t quite work for me either, the still water and reflection are great but the pose does look a little awkward. :frown:

Not quite working here either, the pose does look a tad awkward although typical, and agree that a portrait crop may be better, good reflection though.

All the best

Good mirror-image, Clive. Interesting how the mirrors pose is different. Just wish for a clear eye. :wavey:
