Just thought I'd pass along info posted to Tweeters (Listserv for birdwatching in WA) that caught my eye. Dave Hayden was birding the trail from Windy Ridge to Loowit Falls on Saturday (7/31), and posted the following:
"When we came around the corner to where we could see the blast plain, we saw a sea of blue. This turned out to be some of the best Lupine patches that we have ever seen."
This is surprisingly late. I hiked from Windy Ridge to Johnston Ridge in early July, and while there were flowers here and there I thought this year would be a bit of a bust. I would give an eye tooth to go check it out, but (as seems par for the course this summer) will have to miss it. I'm heading to NM, maybe I can catch a photo or two there. Meanwhile, I hope someone can use the info and maybe check it out.

Thanks for the update, John. I'd love to go up there, but, like you, I have other things calling for my time...can't even play hooky from work for a day...
