Rainbow Lakes with Repost.
This weekend I took my dad backpacking. I didn't think I would get much photography done but I decided to bring my camera with me anyways. I was welcomed Sunday morning with a windy yet wonderful sunrise.

The first image is of Middle Rainbow Lake looking out towards Walden.

This is looking at the outlet of Upper Rainbow Lake up towards Mt Ethel.

Those are sure nice for unexpected shots! You had some nice light and I'm sure a good time as well.

wow is pretty much all I can say, except maybe lighten #1 just a smidge in the bottom left corner as the flowers seem a little dark under the pedals and area of grass. but besides that awesome photos :toast:

Beautiful alpenglow Jim. Some great light here. Nice work.

Jim,

Those are some nice images, though a bit more shadow detail in the foreground of the first would be welcome.

Great shots! Was NOT bringing a camera EVER an option???

I thought it was just my uncalibrated work monitor but I kind of have to agree with the bringing out the shadow details with Chad and Mel. But these are really sweet!

Excellent, Jim - especially #1. I tend to agree about the dark bottom

Love #1! A little more shadow detail would be nice, but the progression from darkness to light following the line of the stream works for me. My eye does get a bit stuck down at the bright sky at the end of the lake. But it's a very lovely shot.

I can see where comments are made regarding the dark lower corner in #1 esthetically speaking. However, it doesn't bother me because of the low light situation. It seems entirelly believeable considering those conditions. I like it as is. The second is nice but doesn't have the impact of the first compositionally. Beautiful spot to shoot :toast:

Purdy! Glad you decided to take the camera.

Wow--#1 is just fabulous! :toast: (i like it dark)

Love the light and color in #1. I like it dark too but I usually tend to the underexposed side of things.

Here is a re-post with a little more foreground detail. Part of the reason I kept the foreground detail dark is because there was a little bit of movement in the yellow flowers so I didn't want to make them stand out too much.

Jim...I like the original version... what an awesome place and light...you have composed it well too...very beautiful! :toast:

Second version looks washed out.

Great comp Jim, I really like the first one.

Lovely composition and beautiful skies!
The first was too dark and now this one is too bright. Somwhere in between the two would be just right, IMO.

That first shot is great! I love how my eye easily "flows" from the foreground flowers to the incredible sunset behind. I prefer the first version, but perhaps you could try combining the lighter foreground of the second version with the darker background scene of the first? Not really necessary though, I think the first is really nice as is.

I like the light and clouds in the first one.
