Medano Moods
I wasnt gonna try shooting Medano Lake at sunrise--theres just too many mountains around and it just doesnt get any good light, sunset, sunrise--never! So, i got the bright(stupid) idea to shoot it in the midst of a monsoon instead, figuring the thunderstorms would lend some dramatic light to the peaks. Well...i didnt get any light, but i did get drama! By the time i got to the lake, thunder was already booming behind Herard, and i had just enough time to run to the lakeshore to take 4 exposures (2 horiz, 2 vert) before running like heck out of there. Moments later it started pouring, and continued pouring...with numerous lightning strikes all around me. Fun. I barely made it out the roads were so washed out. Well, not the prettiest of shots i know, but it does get the point across...i think.

Stan....very unique place. I really like the complex reflection and shapes on the left....really feel the monsoon in this shot,,, :toast:

The clouds are quite dramatic, but nothing near the story you have to tell. Looks like an interesting location that would still be fun to visit without all the drama!

Glad you survived the maelstrom, Stan. Hey, four shots after that tough hike is better than no shots, and this one's a keeper. And you didn't get fried.

Sounds like a fun time! I like the weather drama in this shot, but I'm not too into the split foreground comp.
