Short Eared Owl Hunting
One from a few weeks back. This was one of a pair of SEO's hunting a very large patch of moorland around 2000 ft up. They had well advanced young that they were feeding around a mile away and were covering massive areas of ground searching for voles. It really was a case of finding a spot and waiting for a flypast so didn't manage too many images. Beautiful birds that I haven't seen many of in the Dales this year. We didn't get many migrants in the winter and they can be subject to persecution unfortunately.

7D 700mm ISO:200 1/800 sec @ f/5.6 almost FF and handheld.

Thanks for the comments on my last image.

A super image Simon with nice background and foreground colouring and with the bird's wings on the diagonal. Would have been nice to have a more face-on pose (to get both eyes in full view) but we have to take what we can get and I'd be very happy to have one as good as this. Well done :toast: :toast:

Thanks all. Craig there really haven't been many, I spent a lot of time looking for them this year in areas around my home where there should be plenty. I saw one during the whole of last winter and just this one breeding pair this summer. Hopefully we will see more from November onwards

You may not have managed many images but this one certainly works very well.
