Anyone using any alternative LP-E4 batteries for Canon 1DMk3 other than the £100 Canon ones, and if so what make and how successful have they been? Cheers.

John,

I tried them and when back to Canons.

The problem wasn't there performance in the summer it was their performance in the winter; it was dismal and they didn't hold a charge well when stored.

Cheers

Thanks Tom, thats what I suspected - the 'good' experiences seem very few compared to the bad. Looks like its the real thiing I'll be having then.

I posted this question on another forum and was told of the experiences with other batteries not holding the charge so I stuck with canon

I tried some from 7day shop, they are on their way back and will be buying a canon although i have picked up a lead that plugs into the charger and the 12v of the car outlet so will be using this for a trip to scotland.

Canon ones for me too mate. I tried a couple of Chinese ones and the were OK, but often they would unlock and I'd lose power just at the wrong moment (is there ever a right moment?)
Two canon batteries on the Mk3 should be good for close to 4000 shots, even with moderate chimping.
