Denver News Channel 4 just reported the latest in the fatal bear attack in Yellowstone a couple weeks ago. They are investigating the possibility that a photographer was baiting the bear with food in order to get a shot.....sheesh!!!
More info. on that story at USA Today.
I sincerely hope that this isn't true.

I sincerely hope that if it IS true, that the culprit is charged with manslaughter or something even more serious. I also hope it's no one we've ever heard of.
Makes me think of the bison warning flyer they give you at the Park entrance, the one with the guy with camera gear being tossed into the air by an enraged buffalo. Some shots are not worth it. If this is true, that guy's shots were the ultimate pinnacle of "not worth it." Never forget that your actions have consequences.
wow, I agree with jackson I've seen those signs and they do work in my opinion, but there are always people who won't listen to sense. sad if this is the case, what kind of photographer would go to such lengths for a photo. I mean I have done some things that are considered dangerous climbing cliffs and such but never putting animals in danger. so sad
I really hope its not true also, but i was very suspicious of this case from the start, i very strongly doubt the bear was just acting as a predator. If it was the case, its going to really rock the wildlife photog community (assuming they can even prove it--sounds like a lot of third hand rumor at this point)
EDIT: Theres a 'Hot Topic" going on this same story--apparently theyve "identified" the phtoographer and are attempting to set up a meeting with him (im sure he will be very cooperative...)
Incidentally, i 'ran' into a very large black bear at Medano a few days back--it ran away when it saw me, pretty much like most of the dozens and dozens of black bears ive seen do.
Hey guys--please keep us posted. This just makes me sick. We've had several bear attacks here in Ga. I think one last year killed a little girl. Me-no-sleep ever in a tent or a canvas pop-up. No interested is providing any bear with food. Geeze--what a way to go. I feel so sorry for the families and for the mom and babies that will be put to sleep. As for the photographer I feel like the rest of you.
We all have seen the "tourists" getting their wildlife shots. I have one from many years back of a guy with an instamatic (that was a very small film camera for the younger set, I'm sure Todd still has one ) about 10 feet away from a bull moose in Yellowstone. He was very lucky it was not autumn.
I sincerely hope it was not the case that someone wanted the shot so bad it cost a human life, other serious injuries, and the death of the bear.
