Last night I was west of town shooting an incredible storm over Pueblo. A little while after sunset, the clouds got organized enough to produce a funnel cloud. I wasn't 100% sure that's what I was seeing, so I sent the pic to Weatherman Stan, who seemed confident that it was. I also noted that if I scroll through the four shots taken directly after this one (after the funnel dissipated), there's definite rotation of the cloud mass.

The orange glow is from the lights of Pueblo.

I'm not bothering posting a version here, I'd rather you view it large:
OMG, it's comin' right at us!!!

Holy cow! That would be a great shot even without the little funnel cloud.

Not sure I could have managed good composition, exposure, and no camera shake while running away at top speed...

Some great timing for an extremely effective image here.
Colorful evening light + lightning + funnel cloud =

Yowser! That's a kick-butt weather shot. Getting the lightning was another great bonus.

Another great shot, Todd. The clouds are amazing enough, but the lightning adds an element of drama, and I appreciate that the foreground is nicely lit instead of silhouetted.

That is way cool with the funnel, lightning, and reflected light.

Absolutely magnificent! :toast:
You just nailed the exposure and composition, while the lightning bolt seems to ground the image (..ouch! ).
Someone here (you?) posts links to a site which shows daily images of weather phenomena. If this ain't a shoo-in, I don't know what is.

Congratulations for being in the right place at the right time!

How ironic! Headline reads, "Cloudman killed by cloud. Film at 11:00." Phenomenal shot, TC!

I opened it expecting to see a little funnel cloud, but then you took it a couple of levels higher by adding lightning and some orange cloud tint. Holy mother of storm shots............!
