Cannon Beach w/repost
I was at Cannon Beach and Ecola yesterday evening. I had hoped for more sun. Anyone going out there today may have better luck. This image was taken in the rain, where I got to test out my Kata rain cover. Different conditions may have made this more interesting, but I haven't had anything new to post for awhile, so I'm sharing this one.

I like the comp. very much, Ryan.. not an ordinary take from down there. I'm a little curious about the greenish splotches(?) in the lower right foreground though..

Thanks Ned, I think the green is some kind of algae like stuff, or something. I am considering desaturating the green a bit. I find it a little distracting. There is some visible on the wood too. I may leave it. Who knows. This image is sort of growing on me a little bit, but I might do some more involved PS work on it to see what I come up with.

ryan,
Nice use of the wide angle. The sunlight is a little blown. I think thats just a minor deal.

Here is the same image with a little more PS work. I think there is a little more drama here, IMHO.

Ryan,
Agreed. The repost is more colorful and dramatic.

Ryan,
I like the second one much better also. Love the color in the stump! Just curious what your thoughts are on the Kata rain cover after having used it? I'm thinking about getting one for an up coming trip to the PNW this spring. Thanks! RLS

Richard, the Kata rain cover definitely keeps rain off the camera. The camera controls on the top and rear of the camera are easily accessible, as are the tripod controls through the two access sleeves. The autofocus worked just fine with the wrap around the lens. It is a little difficult to get to the zoom control of the lens, so that is a little awkward. It also takes a little getting used to looking through the viewfinder with the clear plastic cover over it, but it is very clear, and I felt I could still see everything.

With the cover and more difficult access to the zoom ring you have to weigh some inconvenience vs a nice dry camera. I really appreciated the cover when I was taking this picture as the rain was coming down pretty hard (not a downpour, but steady large drops). I think the cover would resist a downpour just as well.

I feel it was worth the money, which isn't too much. The last time I was out in the rain I used a plastic garbage bag and a towel. It was easier using the Kata rain cover, in my opion.

Ryan,
Thanks for the Kata info. I wondered about the viewfinder clarity so that helps. Have you tried the E-704 sleeves with it? We desert rats get paranoid about that wet stuff we here falls from the sky out your way

I don't have the E704 sleeve since I really don't have a long telephoto that woud warrant it. I would suspect that using the zoom may be somewhat challenging, but I think it would protect the lens as advertised.

Thanks again Ryan :wavey:

Ryan,
The second one is better, but imho...your collection of images are at a much higher standard than this.

I'd have to agree with Rick on this one, Ryan.

I don't completely disagree with you (Rick/Mark) but on a whim I decided to print this out at 12x18, and I tell you what, it has some impact that just can't be shared in the web version. My wife was pretty "ho-hum" about the image on the computer screen, but after it was printed out she was in love with it. I'm not saying it is my best work, it ain't, but I feel pretty good about this one as a print. If my wife likes it, I'm happy.
