One from today. BG not great but it was where she kept landing. Not mad on the square crop but not a lot of option as it is nearly full frame.
One of the best days out this year for Dragons and Butterflys. A great variety of both. All topped off with a sausage cob.good company and sunshine. Not a lot more you could want

Excellent capture, beautiful shades of brown. Nothing wrong with a square crop, Hasselblad owners have been doing it for years and paying well for the privilege.
The simple pleasures in life are the best I find Maggie.
Really good detail in here Maggie, coulors look very complimantery.

This is the angle you have to go for if you want the wing detail, Maggie. For hawkers you usually have to accept a fussy background, as they rarely settle out in the open. With darters and chasers you can afford to be a little bit more choosy. It might have been worth trying a sideways view, but then you do, of course, lose the wings - or will that be the next posting?

Lovely shot of this species and i always find it difficult to choose the right composition for a shot like this due to the BG.
Well done!

Good sharp dragon that still stands out nicely, even with that background.
You should have got your 'good company' to run in each time the dragon flew and cut away a bit of the 'clutter',before it came back and landed again.

Very Nice Maggie, beautiful, great detail and colours

yes, you often can't be too choosy about backgrounds with Hawkers. This is nicely taken and I like the colours. I think I'd have been tempted to rotate the camera slightly so that the Hawker was slightly more diagonal in the image (though not if it makes the stems in the background look at an unnatural angle).
