Rainier Conditions Update
This was taken saturday, at about the 6k foot level and pretty much sums up the conditions of the flowers around the Paradise area. Last year this time, I think that the weather was 30-40 degrees warmer than it was this weekend! It doesnt look like it is going to be a whole lot warmer this next week...so the window of the flower blooms is closing up there. I just dont know if it is going to happen up there this year. It might be a bit of a dud like the gorge was...

Thanks for the update. I'm going to head down at the end of this week but I guess I won't get my hopes up. How were the bugs??

Thanks for the update Rick. The Tacoma News Tribune had an article in Sunday's paper about the wildflower season at Rainier. They claim it may be a banner year. Right now, it's looking more like you are right.

Like many others, I'm hoping for a glorious wildflower season with carpets of color, but this photo of Rick's really hits home for me - it superbly captures much of the experience of Rainier, an expansive meadow of flowers with a damn impressive mountain in the background. Even if it isn't prime time for the flowers, I'm wishing I was there right now seeing those silly mouse-on-a-stick pasque flowers poking up through the greenery and waving at the paintbrush.

Thanks to Rick and Marc for the status posts, and hope to run into some of you on the trails at Paradise in a week or so.
