last evening we went out shooting again, to find some new Sunflower fields up near Longmont. I have to say that east of I-25 off off 66 on the dirt county roads there are several HUGE fields growing. We found 5....of those 5 it seems like you can possibly get to 1 of them is all, the rest you would have to knock on the farm house door and get permission to shoot...that being said.....

We stopped by the field that has become almost iconic, off 87th north of 66. (you drive about 3 miles north on 87th until it essentially dead ends) That field has NOT popped yet and according to the lady who came out to greet us, shooting the breeze with us while we shot, and who owns the property, her husband planted very late this year and it is still 1 1/2-2 weeks out yet. This is the field that everyone and their dog shot last year, that has the HUGE Sunflowers with Mt Meeker in the background. So mark your calendars! There are flowers blooming there now but it is no where near like it will be in 10 days time.

While speaking with her she gave us the location of yet another field that she is "enormous" in size. This one is off CR7 north of 66 (west of the highway) We drove by it last evening after it was dark. Want to take a guess where we are heading today? :D It is gigantic, the parking on the side of the road though is a tad tight, but what can ya do!?!?

So onwards and upwards folks! go get shooting!

I JUST got this in my inbox this AM on deviantART, if any of you guys see me shooting (I am a real big guy that will be in a Hawaiian shirt with 2 other photographers) come say hello!

"Howdy--
The one I drive by every day is off of 287 N of Longmont on the way to Berthoud; its on the E side, maybe three or four miles out of town, in a little depression. There is however a better field, though it may be too close to the mountains for really scenic backdrops, but it's good for sunflowers sake; its near Terry Lake. Take Hwy66 west, to Hover/95th, and go north. About a mile and a half up, you'll see Terry Lake on the right, and Woodland Road will take off to the left; there are some good fields on the south side. I will say that I havent been there in at least a week, so I don't know whats in bloom and what isn't, but its been pretty impressive the last couple of years. The farmhouse at that intersection has some trees that make an interesting visual when they start to turn later in the fall; not big, but bright red with some cool lines receeding off into the distance."

I cycled past the Woodland and 87th field on Saturday, and definitely is a week or so out from full bloom yet!. There is one other by Terry Lake also as mentioned above, on the West side of 95th, just Sth of the Lake. On the South side of this field there is a dirt road, so parking is easy, but it doesn't have good views to the peaks due to trees - but would be good for close up work. The later is in bloom right now!.

How far north of 66 is the CR7 field John?.

John, I also stopped by at that other field and it was nowhere near bloomed, but given that I did not know of any other fields and had about 20 min until sunset, I just hauled back to the other field I was at over the weekend. That field is really past prime and the only thing that made the shot was the beautiful sunset. I would also like to know where off CR7 the other field is as well if you don't mind posting it here.

@Nick, the field on CR7 is about 1 1/2 miles north of 66 maybe? It isn't to far from 66...all i can say is that it is MASSIVE
