During the wader migration I like to visit one of the smaller reserves of the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory. I got there this morning to find only two birds in front of the hide. As they were both species I had never photographed before (spotted redshank and wood sandpiper) I didn't complain.
This bird, of course, is neither, it is a common sandpiper that came in later. A pigeon flew over, and the sandpiper gave that lovely call, which I always associate with the uplands rather than the southeast coast.
The reserve has a photographers hide (although the pov is still too high),but it only has two seats and others had got there ahead of me, so I had to use the general hide. Even so, I was more than happy with the result.
