Kingfisher, one from yesterday afternoon. As you can see the white collar is blown to bits, so I would like some advice on how to tone it down a touch ( in CS2 ) any advice most welcome.

Lovely portrait and good background Andy.
As for Photoshop advice;the term 'Blind leading the blind',comes to mind.

Not sure what version tou have but you may have shadows and highlights. If you have take the bottom slider to the right and see what happens. If not try selecting the white area and dropping the gamma. Not very technical I,m affraid but its what I'd try.
Its a nice pic and worth trying.

Might be worth, if you took the shot in RAW, to try processing it through Raw Therapee, which is a free packaged from the internet. I use it, and it has a great ability to recover blown whites, better than the options in DPP. Worth a go. Aside from that, the image is lovely.
I've always found those white areas a problem - as mentioned, if the whites are completely blown on the RAW, there's not much you can do
Lovely clean image though

Cheers guys, this is the first decent image of a Kingfisher that I've taken, so even if the whites are unrecoverable I'll have to make do until a better shots comes along
that's such a shame Andy because it's a lovely shot in all other regards. I don't think there's much you can do to this one but keep at it.

Beautiful portrait and better than anything I've got on these beautiful birds. In camera I use -0.3 or -0,7 exposure comp this may help in not blowing the whites, not a big deal as its a great KF image Andy

Very nice anyway, even if it hasn't reached the pinnacle of technical perfection, according to the consensus of opinion.
