I was out last night trying for the meteor shower - in the old days I could set the time lapse manually and life was good. Now I can not find anything for the time lapse on the Nikon D300 or D200 that enables the shutter speed to be greater than 30 seconds. I did set it to bulb and added a remote so I can hold the shutter down for as long as I want physically.

I looked at the interval timing menu but still can not get a spot where I can set the length of exposure. Am I missing something easy?

Thanks
Lindy

That's what we do, Lindy. It never even occurred to me to search the menus for alternatives. BTW- If you're using the Nikon MC-30 release, it has a lock on it to free up your thumb on long exposures. While we frequently use electronic releases in the studio and on location, we switch to MC-30 releases in the field specifically because of that lock.

I know that Canon makes a programmable remote switch that allows for setting the time digitally and leaving it, as well as multiple exposures to get star trails without the noise buildup. I don't know if Nikon has a compatible device, but at least you can set those & know it will close the shutter at the exact moment you need without you having to remember to release it.

I find myself having to set my watch alarm for a certain amount of time - it's just as easy to program the switch & it takes care of the timing for you. The only downside is that they are not cheap!
