was back at eminence last week for a lovely family vacation. got to get out alone one morning and went to mill mountain at the advise of don k. very cool place, but would have been much more exciting with much more water AND MUCH LESS HORSEFLIES!!! lol. i will go back i am certain :)
Drew, glad you made it to Mill Mountain Natural Area. I think it is my favorite of the three shut-ins along Rocky Creek because of its remoteness. I like the way you used the large rock in the foreground as an anchor point in the photo. Yes, it is indeed way down this time of year. I recall arriving there one morning to see Ozark Trail hikers just downstream and on the opposite side. They had to camp there overnight because the water was too high for crossing the creek. They made it fine in the morning after the water went down to knee level.
Pick a cloudy day this fall or spring after a good rain and you can bag all three shut-ins in a single day!
By the way, last month, I had an official looking Klepzig Mill sign made with an arrow pointing left. I installed it just to the left of the intersection where Hwy. N ends and the side road to Klepzig Mill begins. The National Park Service needed one there anyway. I hope it doesn't get vandalized. Did you see it?
Are you sure they weren't deer flies?
Best,
Don

I like this shot especially the way the water is framed at the bottom of the picture with it flowing off to both sides. And it looks like a lot of water compared to what I'm used to in Kansas!

Don yes i did see your sign! In fact i questioned how did i miss it the first time??? I guess cause it wasnt there! Lol. I went out to klepzig to try my hand at a night shot. 11pm, alone...it was spooky and i learned i still have a lot to learn about night photofraphy as my shots were unsuccessful :(
