Taken back in the spring, this juvenile Dipper was exploring it's territory near a culvert which offered the dark BG and outflow of this image.. I guess some might have liked the bird facing into the frame but the catchlight wasn't as pleasing for me so I went against the grain on this occasion.
Brett works for me how it is,flowing water and bird very nice.

I think the bird is looking the wrong way for this particular shot. An alternative would be to present this as a portrait crop as the bird would be looking into the shot more??

Nothing wrong with going against the grain, Brett. See http://www.goenglish.com/AgainstTheGrain.asp I particularly find the third definition to my taste. Excellent in every respect, I particularly like the frozen-in-time water, not that dreadful blurry effect so beloved by many.

Can't really make my mind up on this one Brett.
Good though. I tend to agree with Ian I think.

I also can't make my mind up about the position of the bird but love the water

been back to this a few times, wasn't sure at first, but it's grown on me. Love the background and Dipper looking out of frame works on this

Works for me as posted Brett, I might even be tempted to position the bird a little further to the right, the flowing water looks great too.
