Hey guys,
I just came back from an anniversary trip with my wife to Seattle and the Cascades. Talk about dark starry skies and wildflowers, geesh, Rainier is awesome with snow still on the mountain in many places. While this wasn't a 'photo' trip I did manage to take my camera and some pictures while visiting. What a beautiful place to vacation in August!
Image info: 5D2, single exposure, ISO 4000, 30 secs, 17mm. I posted a horizontal starscape of Rainier and the Milky Way in ESS as well.

Derek,
Your night/star images are fantastic. I've yet to comment in ES&S, but I will be. Nice images from your trip. I liked the big blue reflection perhaps the most and there are some nice flower/landscape images too. Looks and sounds like a great trip and even though it was an "anniversary" trip, you managed some photography too! Must have been your present.
This is gorgeous, Derek. I am a sucker for well done astro shots. The dust lanes show very nicely. and I like how you pulled some detail from the mountains.
Sounds like you had a wonderful trip--and an understanding wife!
Well done!

ISO 4000, nice work. You did a great job taming the noise!

Thanks guys, I have been having fun catching the stars with these newer sensors. It can be more challenging at times. This time it was relatively easy with no blending or special tricks needed. Although for scenes where more foreground illumination is also desired like in some fo Steve's night shots blended exposures are very beneficial.
I have also toyed with the idea of using multiple frames (stacking), dark frame substraction, as well as Canon's builtin long exposure NR. But so far I have only used blends for the foreground and background. In a way it's like a new frontier for landscape photography.
