Hey folks,
Sorry, for posting a link to an external site, but I've been checking out Picasa so I thought I would see how this goes. One thing is for sure, I much prefer Picasa over Flickr.
Anyway, Preston you'll recognize this right away. Actually this image is all contained within your image. But just so folks know, I had no idea Preston had captured his image, and vice versa. These images, as well as Harley's "Waterfall Sculpure" we're all captured independently.
My version is not a crop of Preston's but I had a longer lens; 450mm vs. a 300mm.
I was disappointed when I got my slide back because it was part of a group of slides that I had pull-processed and subsequently it was underexposed a bit. I didn't think I could make anything out of this, but enter PhotoShop and I think I was able to rescue this. I've included the un-processed image so you can see what I started with.
This image here is the 1st of 3 different crops and b&w counter parts. If you have a moment if you could check out the various crops and let me know which ones you prefer? I'm intending on putting 1 color and 1 b&w on my website when I next update it.

Lon, I prefer the color vertical w/o the rock shoulder on the right. The point of interest to me is the finger of rock jutting out into the "unknown" dark area and the soft flowing veil of water. The rock shoulder on the right distracts me, looking for "something" that I can't seem to find, it keeps pulling my eye away from the falls and rock finger. Very nice "abstract" though
I prefer #6. I would agree with Reno about the rock on the right. The comp flows better for me without it. It is a tough call between the color and B&W.
How interesting that three people made photos of a particular portion of this waterfall, from three different angles--all different and expressive in their own way. Some psychologist would probably have a theory as to why such things happen, but I believe we have very similar tastes and ideas of shape, tone, and design.
You did an admriable job with your 'rescue'!
I prefer this one (on Picassa): 5. 40094SV Vert Crop. I believe it's the same one Reno likes, and I like it for the same resaon.
I went back in my archive and found a shot of the full falls. The image was made in 2004 and the log is not there. I'll post it here, shortly.
Very nice work!

Thanks Guys!
Here's the full falls from 2009 and I see the log has been there for at least a year now..
Hi Lon,
Thanks for sharing the various versions. I would prefer No. 3. but the vertical No. 5 is pleasing as well. Both versions have a warmer, richer gold tone to the rock, which I think helps deepen the image. Best Regards.

Thanks!

I'd be curious to see the 2004 version as well.
