Thats a cracking Puffin image Geoff, with super exposure of the bird, just a shame you don't have any more room at the bottom to even up the composition.

I think its lovely and love the daisies finishes it off a treat
Thanks guys
Lol Bertl, I must admit that I do feel a bit, how shall I say, inadequate, embarrassed even, when I see what equipment most of you people on here own :
I bought my camera when it first came out and it was £425, it's plastic, has the older CCD sensor, 2.5 frames per second with a buffer for just 4 Raws, only the one centre cross-hair and of course, no focus tracking or any of the fancy stuff you guys have, but it's given me a lot of fun and some good photos too
I'm looking to upgrade now though, to something more appropriate, then I'll probably be taking "amateur" photos with "Pro" equipment
Geoff.

It's not the size of your equipment but the way that you use it, that counts IMO, Geoff.

Many years ago I saw an article somewhere in the press where David Bailey had been sent to the zoo with a very basic Kodak Instamatic. Guess what? He came back with brilliant pictures. In any camera, the bit that makes the biggest difference is the nut behind the lens.
In this case I think your wife has called it dead right, it is a lovely shot of a puffin, and I think it also suggests that there is nothing wrong with the equipment you already have.

Yes, shame there's no more room at the bottom, I zoomed in a bit tight for this one I'm afraid, it's a habit of mine
Geoff.

I like to see such high quality shots made with "amateur gear".
Congratulations,
Bertl
