I plan on driving up to Yellowstone the last 2 weeks of September. I will have 2 - 3 days to get to Denver (then home from there) and want to leave through the 'East Gate' since that is the only one I have not yet traveled. Do you have any suggestions for the those days?

Thanks for any tips, Corinna

You might be interested in this book:'Photographing Yellowstone Nat'l. Park'.
Also, the discussion forums at Yellowstone.net have lots of great advice.

John,

Thanks for the information. I am heading there in September on a photo tour. The forum is a great reference.

Corina, not trying to toot my horn but the best way for me to give you places to go is by looking at my Yellowstone gallery page photos on my website. You can find it here.
Most of these are labeled, but if you have any questions let me know. My blog also has some Yellowstone images on it with text.

Thanks for the info. I am fairly familiar with the park and have a book with photo tips.

What I am looking for is suggestions of places outside the park between the East Gate and Denver, so I can put together a route to drive.

Corinna,
While mostly know as a climbing destination, I find the granite outcroppings of the Vedauwoo area to be full of photographic potential. Nice campsites and there should be some fall color at that time. It's located just off I-80 east of Laramie. The best collection of images I've seen from the area is from fellow forum member, and Wyoming resident, Brett Deacon. Check it out here.

If your going through Cody, Wyoming and photograph animals you might want to go to the McCullough Peaks Horse Management area. It about 20 miles East of Cody and is easy to access. Great place to photograph wild horses.
