It is true
There is something special about New Mexico light. Even though it was only 8 or 9 miles into New Mexico at this point. I worked in San Luis the first part of this week and we stayed in Antonito, so the first night I drove south on 285 to see what sunset might do. Glad I did.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Nice to see you venture south of the border, Morris. Killer shots! I've seen a number of spectacular sunsets on that stretch of highway, but I'm usually to lazy to get the tripod out when I'm heading for the stable.

I too have witnessed many a spectacular sunset on this stretch of road Morris! You always manage to arrange what could otherwise be mundane and overlooked subject matter into a very pleasing way-which is much harder than you make it look. The awesome sunset colors don't hurt either! Great shots, reminds me of home :toast:

These are stunning Morris. Thats some incredible light.

So what you're saying is that if you were 8 or 9 miles north in Colorado you wouldn't have had this kind of color?

Great stuff Morris. I, too, have discovered the quality of light and the variety of photographic subjects of New Mexico. Unfortunately, my kid what was going to school in Roswell graduated so I have to find another reason to get down there. But that's never stopped me before! Keep the great images coming.

You found some nice country in which to showcase the beautiful sunset.
Almost wish you could have kept the same composition in #2 as #1.

And I definitely need a job like yours!

Jackson, Jared, and Jeremy (Ha! All "J's) thanks for the kind comments.
John, you don't know what you're saying about my job. It does have me traveling lately, which I don't really like unless it's for photography. So, I guess I might as well enjoy it and try to make lemonade. I have similar comps for #2, but my thought was to give more importance to the sky in the second comp because of the great clouds and color.
Bill, this pano, which will be tiny here shows the special light stopped right at the Colorado border on this evening.

Morris, that firrst shot is a real killer. I love the foreground interest with the bush. The sky is awesome. They say 95% of good photography is being there at the right time. Good on ya for being there.

That pano is a killer, I can only imagine what it's like to be there...

The "land of enchantment" did you very well with that light. I prefer the comp in #1. See if you can get an import/export agreement with the folks down there and bring some of that light up here this fall.

Gorgeous light Morris!!! That first one is amazing!

Okay, so whoever has the switch to the invisible fence that keeps the undesirable New Mexico light out of Colorado, please turn it off!

Really wonderful captures Morris. Wish I'd been there. :jump:

I can remember one time when I was coming home from a great trip up north, and we were not really very eager to get back to our jobs and normal life. When we crossed the NM border north of Chama, it seemed like the light instantly drained, birds fell out of the sky, the sedge withered. I love New Mexico, but sometimes it feels like lushness and really big mountains just end at that borderline. Besides, if there were any logic to state boundaries, the San Luis and the south slopes of the San Juans would be ours, darn it!

Great job Morris!!! Love both of them! :wavey:

Its hard to beat the NM sunsets. You captured the essence of the Land of Enchantment and took it to a much higher level. Wow.

Morris, these are some terrific inmages! I love the comp of the first one in particular. The pano is very close though in greatness! I need to work my way down to NM this year....at least to photograph Bosque.

These are wonderful! That invisible fence around Colorado extends to Virginia!

Wow, amazing sunset! I like the minimalist scenes of your compositions.

There is something special about New Mexico light.

No, there isn't. That's a myth, ginned up by the New Mexico Tourism Board. However, these photos are spectacular! Esp. the second one.

Great shots!!

Nice. The foreground sage is a nice element in #1. One can almost invision the antelope in the distance. I spent many nights at the base of San Antonio in the Augusts of '85 & '86, but do not recall sunsets like these. It was different to see a few elk run across the flats during the middle of one day.

Wow, what light! They are both nice, but I LOVE the comp in #2. Excellent.
