I've done it again. My website has a new design.

Thought I'd share it with everyone. I've added a ton of new images, and I'm going to be actually using my blog here. No really. I encourage anyone here to keep tabs and participate.

I've spent the last several months overhauling my collection and building this website. It's a huge achievement for me. But it's far from perfect, of course - so I welcome any comments/feedback.

http://www.jessespeer.com/

It's powered by a combo of WordPress and PhotoShelter, by the way. Turned out to be a good (and affordable) solution for someone who redesigns as frequently as I do. I highly recommend PhotoShelter. It would be a website great add-on for anyone who has any desire to remotely store/sell high-resolution files.

Love the new website Jesse!! I was checking out your Palouse Gallery since I'm heading there Monday for a couple days with Chip Phillips. I hope I can get one or 2 like that for sure. All my stuff will be gold or brown, no green right now :frown: but I'm still really looking forward to it.

The site is pretty easy to navigate so I like that too. Nice job!!

I just don't understand how someone can see in such magnificent fashion. I know we all look at the world differently, but I go out and shoot and am usually happy with what I get, and then I look at your photos, and it just becomes immediately apparent that there is a whole 'nother level (or many) waaay above what I'm doing, and I lack the secret handshake required to access that level. Just makes me want to keep plugging away, with the hope that that door to the higher levels will open just a crack at some point.

Beautiful site. Ditto what Todd said, you have one of the most elegant visions I've ever seen. Its incredibly humbling to view your work. :toast:

The first words that come to mind are 'very, very clean'.
I reckon that's due to the white background, which I love. The design of the thumbnails is perfect,
and everything is so intuitive and fast.
In the end, it's the quality of your work that is the rock upon which your site is built. I can only echo what Todd said in that regard. Only showing the 'best of the best' is a move that I wish more online galleries would copy.
The quote by Virginia Woolf on your 'About..' page is wonderful! I had never seen it before, and it is so appropriate.

And just so this isn't entirely a lavish praise piece,
I'll email you (via your site. of course) a list of spelling/grammar errors later.

Outstanding, Jesse! Love your latest work and the site design allows the images to do the speaking. Clean, easy to navigate...pretty much rocks. I found a few spelling/grammar errors too, but it looks like John is already working on a list for you.

On my "to-do" list is "integrate site w/ Photoshelter". One day...when I can find the time.

Jesse, I really like the design of how the images open and close with a single click in the same space. Very cool  As for your work....I am pretty sure I have told you on this forum at least twice I am a HUGE fan! I aspire to be even near your ability one day.

I'm having a problem getting the pictures to load when I click on a thumbnail, Jesse. I use Windows Internet Exporer. I can navigate through all of the pages, but can't get any photos to enlarge. I get a message on the thumbnail that it is loading, but several minutes pass and nothing happens. Why would you just tease me this way? Great, next you'll start charging to view your work! Hey, don't get any ideas.

P.S. what I can see from the thumbnails has me drooling, and the site looks fantastic!

Jesse, I posted to your blog but your site looks great. I really love those light clean backgrounds. It makes your wonderful images truly pop and you now are giving those images more justice by giving us a larger look! Congrats on a big accomplishment.

I had a little trouble navigating your site. I was looking at the autumn portfolio.
I would click on a picture and it would loda quickly, but when I went to look at the
next photo, It took me back 2 levels to the intro page. I was unable to just go back
to the page with all the autumn photos.

Thank you for the feedback folks! I'm overwhelmed by some of these comments ... truly humbling on my end.

I've received a lot of emails, including plenty of error reports. I'll respond as I catch up. Thank you for those!!

Art, I appreciate your feedback. I've already decided to change the format of the portfolios. A lot of people will click the back button - exiting the page (not intended). Morris, not sure why the images weren't loading for you. Hopefully, a fluke. Haven't seen that, or had any other reports.

I just spent a good while browsing and had no issues (at least with the site; envy and covetousness are another story). Captivating! And I'm delighted to see you blogging again.

Jesse... seen this and commented on this on Facebook but I agree with the above comments... you truly are a visionary when it comes to portraying the simple scene in to a masterpiece! I love your simple, elegant design..I am not sure if it is my net connection or not but I am experiencing delayed response in opening up pictures..... but after reading the comments above I am thinking may be my internet is a slow one! Great job again....:toast: :toast:

I had no idea Jesse. The white suits your images very well. I think we could all learn from your ability to cover all the bases and hopefully come within a fraction of what you did with your new site. Nicely done!!!

Great job on the new design, Jesse! I like that it still retains the clean look you had before. I also really like the larger images. Your work continues to be a source of inspiration.

I absolutely love the presentation of images. Very clean. Your photographic vision is second to none in my opinion. Always a treat to see your new work.

I love the new site, Jesse. A fine piece of work showcasing your fine photographs. Todd really summed up my feelings about your photography.

Spent some time going through the site as well. Looks really good. No complaints on its performance. Would be nice if one could click on a photo in the portfolio and get the purchase price on prints as well, or a direct link to the image archive. Kind of a pain to find the image in the portfolio window and not able to get purchase info right away.
Posted by Jesse Speer on August 31, 2010 at 12:08 AM
Thanks Steven, that portfolio format is going away soon. You nailed my complaint, and the complaint of a few others. I appreciate the feedback everyone!! :toast:

Awesome photography requires a fitting stage and your new web site fills that need. I really like how you were able to integrate Photoshelter so seamlessly. You have obviously put in a lot of work and it shows! I kept calling my wife in to the room so often to look at another amazing shot I pulled up that she finally pulled up a chair and stayed awhile.

The new site looks awesome; it works on my iPhone and there's no flash!! Your site has great flow and simplicity. Only issue I have is with my slow connection at work; the images in your slideshow change before they completely load. Someday I hope to hire you and Jack to design my site.
