When I sharpen a photo (jpeg) in Digital Photo Prof, which came with my Canon T1i and then save it in the Microsoft Photo program which came with my computer I loose the enhancements. I have tried saving the photo as a TIF file, but still see a loss of sharpness. Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted. Thanks

John, I'm not familiar with either of these programs, but it appears that Digital Photo Prof is not saving your changes. Can you save the image directly in that program?

John, believe you will save yourself a lot time and angst if you invest less than $99 in Adobe's Photoshop Elements 8.

John, There is no reason to not save the file in Digital Photo Pro and doing so will preserve whatever edits you have made as long as you choose the proper file type. If you want to learn more about your Canon software (that is actually quite powerful), you may wish to go for the twenty bucks it takes to buy the book "CANON EOS SOFTWARE" by Andy Stansfield, published Ammonite Press. Elements 8 is great too if you do want to purchase that. JR

John - That doesn't really make sense as stated. Can you explain exactly what you're doing? You can't make changes in one program and save it with another. If you're saving in DPP, then opening it in another program, what exactly are you doing in that other program? How are you determining sharpness?

Thanks everyone, I think I have figured it out. If I open the file in DPP save as a TIF and then open with PSE 7, which is what I have, to prepare to post, my changes in DPP are there. As usual I think I have made more work out of it then needed. The image of the elk was done using the above path. I do appreciate your comments.

Just to clarify John, when you save the file as a TIFF, all of your changes are saved in the file. It shouldn't matter what photo program you open it in at that point. TIFFs are generic and should be able to be read by just about any image program.

In general, when you edit a RAW file, the editing program can save your settings. But to actually make other edits or use it in other programs, you need to save it out as another file - either a JPG or TIFF.

(Really cool elk shot by the way!)
