Anyone remember earlier this summer when Erik Stensland and I posted about an incredible sunrise we witnessed (from different locations) in Rocky Mountain National Park? (If not you can check out the link below!) Back then I promised I'd post some more shots which I took on film at Dream Lake. It's taken me a while to get back to these but this image is one of those shots. It was quite a moment to witness to say the least. I also have an image taken just a few minutes before this one posted on ESS (link below as well). The processing "flavors" differ a little bit between the two: this one is contrastier, has less shadow detail recovered, is not as wide a comp and is a bit yellower in color due to the change in light. I like both images for different reasons and I hope you do too. Thanks for looking!

Oh, man.... Incredible indeed. I think I prefer the ESS version, because the wider angle and foreground elements ground the image, give the scene more context, and make it feel more "complete".

Too saturated for my tastes. Those reds are downright neon. BTW, what's film?

Both this and ESS version were shot on Velvia. I actually decreased the saturation on both compared to the original transparencies/scans. Naturally, from this view, the scene was indeed neon-like.
Thanks for sharing this. It was a really intense sunrise that morning so I wouldn't blame you if you kept the saturation up. Comp wise I like the wider angle view shown on ESS.

Nice! I for one don't mind the saturated colors. I also prefer the ESS version.

Ditto on the ESS post. Fantastic colors!

Another vote for the ESS image as the foregound and side tree gives depth and framing.

This one is too punchy for my tastes, but I really like the one on ESS.

I agree with the over saturated comments but the compostion is great.
Ahhhh, it was Velvia. Now it makes perfect sense. It looks exactly like what that lovely film would produce. It's a beauty. I do like the one on ESS a little more for the comp as mentioned. Just more nice work, Joshua.
