This is my target species at the minute Lea, I like the shot and it's always nice to have a Kingfisher infront of the lense.

I like this kingfisher shot, its beautifull but i'm not sure about the colors of the bird.
I mean the purple on his wings.

Isn't that something to do with the fact that a KF feathers refract blue light and so in certain light conditions, a whole range of blues will show.......well, something like that anyway.

Saw that on the Charlie Hamilton J prog a few weeks back ?

Been back to this several times .
Not sure about the colour but the whole shot seems too hard or dark maybe for a bird we all know quite well. Definately needs the contrast dropping I feel. I think thats why Marcel has made the comment about the colour.
Just raising the gamma to 120 improves it a lot. Brightening it of course up will make the blown cheek patch and light blue rump worse but that's the Kingfisher problem. I am sure there is a pic in there somewhere..
Cheers

Colours look about right to me for a female. The blues are much deeper on the female in my experience and as described they do have tints of purple on the wings. The males have a lot more cyan in the blues. Makes it easy to tell if they are male or female as they fly as the beak is difficult to focus on (for me anyway).

I love both but given the choice I'd rather photograph the female anyday

Good morning Lea,

This is a critique forum, you should take the positive comments as well as the negative comments, in the spirit in which they are meant. Peoples views will always differ so there's no need to make it personal.
