Painted Hills overview
This is a 3 shot pano, taken last spring from the opposing ridge. Kind of interesting to see an overview, at least to me.

Looks like kind of some weirdo slug, doesn't it?

A Martian millipede or something moving across the surface. The perspective is interesting. There isn't a lot of pop to it, but it is definitely cool.

That place is so damn weird! Cool one, Rick!

Rick, take the original photo, go to Selective Color and add a lot of black to the green channel. I think you would really darken up the greens and pop the colors of the Hills more.

So does anyone know just what da heck caused this formation????

The color variation reflects changes in ancient soils and vegetation during a major global cooling event approximately 33 million years ago. The volcanic ash that accumulated here and formed these colorful deposits, also records the onset of Cascade volcanism.

the intricate layering in the claystone can be seen in the bands of color that are caused by various oxides of metals. In particular, the black oxides (manganese) occur in pockets along specific strata. Where they are exposed at the surface, rainwater has caused the oxides to "bleed" downslope, resulting in the patterns in this image.

Well, thanks for the tip Mark...I think it helps. I haven't used selective color in about 3 months...I kinda forgot all about it.

Actually, I added a lot of black to the yellow channel...green didn't do anything...

Now looking at it...it doesn't look that much different on the web.

That overview on the adjacent hill make for some very interesting compositions and possibilities. I like this angle, and the processing quite well..

The colors in the last one are real nice, Rick.
