Miners Beach Sunset
Last week we made a trip to Pictured Rocks to do some hiking and photography. This a shot from Miners Beach at sunset. It had started raining the middle of the afternoon. I checked the weather and it looked like clear skies were moving our way. Sur enough it proved to be a spectacular sunset.

It was a memorable trip in several respects.

First, we only encountered one mosquito the entire trip.

Second, we saw what happens when someone goes over the barrier at Sable Falls. As I approached the falls I noticed a fellow walking along the water. When I reached the platform for taking photos there were a number of other photographers wanting to take photos but the interloper was standing in the way. Who should come along, not one but four park rangers. The lead ranger was over the fence like go mountain goat. She really gave it to the guy. Turns out they were working in the area doing plantings for erosion control. I did ask it if was ok to walk up the river from the lake to take photos and the answer was no.

Third, On the second day were hiking the lakeshore trail. By the time we reached the beach there were strong winds form offshore and some really nice waves.

Fantastic sunset shot, Phil! Love the reflection of the sunset colors in the water.
Good to hear our park rangers are on the job!

That's a really nice sunset. I like the hints of blue at the top. Four rangers, wow, we have three law enforcement officers for the entire forest down here and I have never seen any of them on the trail. People more or less do what they want.

Wow, neat to see a sky like this here in Michigan. Just returned from visiting my parents in Florida and encountered the usual awesome cloud formations native to Florida. But Michigan can hold its own. Neat capture Phil :toast: Guess the NPS is doing better than the State to have four rangers out and about. Glad to hear that.

Phil,
I was just going to yell at you for not calling me when you came to Oregon... What a great image. Looks like a Pacific sunset

That's quite a light show. One of the best sunsets I've ever experienced was at this very spot in October, 2008: Miners Beach Sunset
