I have no idea what this is called but it looked worth taking a photo of.
Sony A350
Sigma 50-500 with extension tube (can't remember which one)
3.2 seconds
f22
ISO 100
500mm
Manual focus
Tripod
Cable release
Gold reflector that my wife made for me from a piece of card, some glue and the gold foil wrapping off an Easter egg (no expense spared)
That's superb and it certainly resembles a table lamp. The golden cap and the pin sharp detail in both the cap and the stem are excellent, as is the setting and viewpoint. A top quality fungi image.
If you run out of Easter egg wrappers, you can often pick up packs of A4 card in gold, silver and white from the cheapy shops for under a pound. Makes perfect reflecters, but perhaps not as much fun as eating the Easter egg to get to the wrapper.
Second that, great capture, and the reflector works a treat!

Des

Thanks Justin and Des.
You're right, it's much more fun eating Easter eggs to get the foil

Excellent !
So I assume with the gold reflector used on this is not the real colour of the fungus ? Could cause a problem with ID maybe ?

Thanks John.
The stem was a browny colour and I suppose the top would've been about the same colour as the underside of the cap, kind of yellowy/cream.
The reflector was held by a mate at about a foot of so away from the mushroom just to lighten up the cap I suppose.
It wasn't that big an Easter egg

Your home made reflector has worked very well. Lighting is beautiful as is the detail.

My first digital still camera was a Sony DSC F717. If I wasn't a Sigma/Foveon fan I would still be using Sony. I like your innovative use of Easter egg wrapping, producing a fine image.

Nice shot. Love the BG and detail in the foreground.
