A reminder for all of you flora photographers, "It's Dahlia Time," hopefully for a few more weeks until the first frost hits. The blooms at the Swan Island Dahlia farm in Canby OR are as beautiful as ever. You may want to plan an early arrival (they open at 8am,) as the gentle breezes often start up by mid morning and by noon can make waiting for your "swaying" subject to stop, a pain.
The Swan Island Dahlias boast they are the largest in the country with 40 acres of fields in bloom with 350 varieties. You can get more info and directions at http://www.dahlias.com/
Happy Shooting!

Craig, your visit to the Dahlia farm paid off. This is very nice with some great contrast of light and dark. All helped by the background. Well done.
It was great to see you at Ridgefield this morning. Did you happen to get those Green Herons?

very nice pink to purple transitions here Craig. Just think what we could do if we could get the right bird to blend in with the flowers...

David, No didn't get the green herons. I waited awhile and one flew by but did not land, I did have a family of 5 water otters swim by and stop to see what I was up to.
Good shot, Craig, as well as some fun sounding outings.
IMHO the image would go over the top if the lower dahlia was more oof. But sometimes the blooms are so close together that the "right" dof isn't possible in a certain shot you're trying for. You probably have good vision to use the "live view" to better advantage for choosing the dof, though. Hope you give it a try and see what you think.
40 acres of dahlias is just too much goodness for me. Can't cover 5 acres at my local dahlia farm as it is!
Happy shooting out there!

I like the 'staggered' effect leading down to the right.

What Cliff said! Nice shot Craig, we haven't had many of these yet, have we?
