The Warm Springs Reservation tribes want to build a casino at Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. This is in the neighborhood of Herman Creek and visible from trails in the newly designated wilderness.
While I support the efforts of the Warm Springs people to broaden their economic base, I think that a casino in this location is entirely inappropriate. If you are of a similar mind, I urge you to submit your comments before the deadline tonight to Secretary of the Interior Salazar and to the BIA. Oregon Wild has a ready-to-go letter that makes it easy:
Done! If you go hike in the Gorge, this is immensely important.

Done, and Greg, I edited your post to make the link easier to get to. Thanks for posting this.

Though I live far from Oregon, I signed it as well. My visit in May showed me just what a special place you all have. I would hate to see it more commericialized and have the flashy lights and extra noise of the casino ruin my peaceful hike through the Gorge. Best of luck on the protests!
Have you considered cross-posting this on some of the other NPN forums? You know we photogs are a passionate group when it comes to the environment.

David: thanks for the edit!
Amy: It's important for the powers that be to know that this is not just a "not in my backyard" issue, so input for visitors is great. Good idea to post on other NPN forums but the official comment period for this stage is over, so we'll have to see if there are more opportunities to voice opinions.
