Scene From My Commute
On the road to Tuba City, Az. for a job and of all of the places to catch a partial rainbow, I saw this at the pullout for the Church Rock scenic overlook just east of Kayenta.

Canon G11 @ full telephoto (140mm equiv.)
1/320 sec. @ f4.5 ISO 80

That's amazing, John! I like the mystical quality of the big rock spire (is that Church Rock?) in the distance. And that bit of sunlit rock on the left adds dimensionality. I guess it pays to throw a p&s in the car!

Thanks, Todd.
Church Rock is just off to the left and just a couple of hundred yards away and out of the frame. The rainbow was diminished greatly when I included it.
That's Agathla Peak on the right...same one Tony Kuyper captured so beautifully here.

Nice image John. How do you like the G11? I sold my G10 and was thinking of purchasing the G11. The only problem I had with the G10 was the noise. I hear that was fixed in the G11.

I wish I had that view on my way to work!!

Two things: I wish my ride to work was that scenic...I get to look at 50 miles of I-25!
..and the last time I went through that area, I hit that overlook at sunrise, and it didn't look anywhere as nice as that!
Great catch!

Geez, all i get to look at on my commute are road kill and plastic shopping bags... :frown:
Well, all i can say is WOW!! Agathla makes the shot. This would have been just a fantastic photo, but with your processing skils its a super killer crazy photo.

Thanks, folks!
I believe the noise issues were somewhat resolved with the G11 by using a less pixel dense sensor. That, and the tilt 'n' swivel LCD screen were what sold me.

John, your commutes are most everyone's envy. Beautiful capture.

Double what what already said, John. A terrific, evocative image.

And the perfect reason to always have a camera with us.

I'm jealous! This is really nice, John, but as presented could use a little sharpening. Have you made any prints from the G11? If so, would you mind sharing your thoughts?

Great catch, John. Looks ready for printing and hanging in a special place.

Awesome! I think I need a good P&S for the glovebox; it really pays to be prepared.

Unbelievable scene! I like the compression of the formations and the rainbow of course.

Great shot, much better than my drive to work on torn up 285 through Denver.

Holy cow, and you said you wanted my job! Outstanding shot, John! The ghostly sillouhette is icing on this cake.
