again from hermaness, have seen plenty of nice puffin in landscape shots on postcards in much nicer light than this but wanted one where the bird was engaging with the view rather than the photographer

Like this Jack, it tells a story. Only nit for me is that I'd prefer to see a touch more of the puffin's face.

I really do like this Jack. I like the feeling that the viewer and the puffin are looking at the same thing and because the subject we are both looking at is the scenery; the fact that you can't see its face doesn't bother me at all. In fact I think it is preferable as it would be a distraction. For me it is a shot of the power of nature and the puffin is pointing us at the real subject. I also like the contrast of the coloured foreground against the mono background. It also says something about the comparative sizes of the tiny bird and the massive cliff face.
Nice one. It gets even better every time I look at it. I wish it was mine. I tried for something similar myself this summer but it never came off anywhere near as well as this. eric
A really differnt approach which works very well in my view. Love the B&W background and coloured foreground. I'm sure this is not the last time I will see this image.

There's a nice graphic 'V' happening in there Jack - the centre line of the puffin lines up perfectly with the big BG rock and that line projects straight to the top left corner, mirroring the line of the cliff on the right - THAT is why it's so 'easy on the eye'.

What a cracking shot - great to see a different spin on a subject

Really like this Jack, I was wondering what you doing so close to that cliff!
