Hi all, another shot from The Griesdale Hide at Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve. This time of a Grey Heron in flight. I would have prefered this in 'Landscape', but my reactions weren't quick enough, so portrait it had to be! I love these birds, but they are so difficult to photograph well, I find. All C&C's most welcome,
regards,
Paul.

A good flight shot Paul
As you say, landscape format would have been better but you have to get what you can with wildlife photography.
Well done.
Geoff.

Good shot paul,
Like the wing position of the Heron. I would also of prefered a landscape format, maybe next time

That was a bit of an adventure for you Paul - I hope the natives were nice
Agree about an LS comp, but hey, you get what you can..
Pity about the slight motion blur at the wing tip; curious as to why you were on such a low iso - being a D3 user it's a number I'm not familiar with (sorry matey, couldn't help it!).
Hope you enjoyed the trip.

Whenever I'm in the field and take a shot that would've worked better in landscape I re-focus on where the subject was and take a landscape version, and blend the two together in photoshop later.
Still a nice shot though

I really like the habitat feeling of this, maybe landscape would have been better but this works well too.

You have covered the main nit - I don't mind the blurred wing tips. Nice one.

Nowt to add other than the aperture although not stated I would have gone bigger.

Reactions look pretty good to me.I'm imagining you were taking it's portrait as it stood in the water and then it took off.I'd have been too slow for this shot, never mind turning the camera round to landscape and getting the shot.Nice one Paul.
