I'd love some feedback on the frame around this photo. I realize many prefer no frame at all, but my personal preference is to include one. For awhile I've been adding a dark or black color around the photo, because it really helps with shadow detail. On the other hand, I find the white to lend a bit of elegance compared to the black. Given the assumption that the photo will be framed, do you prefer black, white, or something else? Other suggestions on framing? (To see darker frames, click on my Gallery link below.) Thanks!

John:
I like the use of simple black or black with white matte frames around my images because , to me, it brings out the colors a little better on this site. Most people don't use them, you are correct. But when you sell them or put them in a contest they are typically matted or framed. So to me, it makes sense.

Whatever color you pick I would make the frame pretty wide---what a great shot!

Thanks for the feedback (and the congrats Darren)!
One problem I'm realizing is that a white frame disappears into a white background. Here's the same image with the border stroked to separate it from the background.

Gorgeous image John, love the light on the tree and grass. Personally I prefer the white frame with a small black outer edge. The white mat should be wide and I feel it adds even more to an already classy print.

First, a beautiful image...
Depends....in this case, I like the white as it brings out the white shimmery light of the water and tree...just as your signature color also achieves. THe micro black line is needed w/white b/g. But I think, so much depends on the photo. On this site, I sometimes wish we had another option besides black or white b/g. .... a third light grey option too.

Awesome shot. And that frame works well...nicely understated. Congrats!

I didn't know there was an image on this thread. I think it's just excellent!

Very nice shot John. The white border definitely suits the image very well and the black edge all the way around does a great job separating the frame from the white background. I've been playing around with "e-framing" and feel that in most cases the frames strengthen the online presentation of the images.
